Video Haiku began in 2006 – when video on the internet was still a very new thing.
I couldn’t believe that the domain “videohaiku.com” was available – I still feel extremely fortunate that I nabbed it.
The early videos, still accessible on the site, were under 2 minutes long and the compressed file sizes were in the neighborhood of 3 mb, which still took ages to upload.
Initially I was strict about the content: two minutes or less, five shots or fewer, contemporaneous sound. Most of the videos were shot with a 256 mb memory card that would only hold about three minutes of SD video, which was a nice limitation.
I’ve since relaxed about what I post, including a range of current projects and writing about cinema, storytelling, media, and culture.
