So this is post number 201 to this blog – I’ve been making video haikus for about a year and a half, at a pretty steady rate of 1-3 per week, since last March. I would guess, conservatively, that there are about six hours of video posted here, almost all of it in two-minute increments.

And I’ve realized, lately, that I’m just not inspired to do it right now – I don’t know if it’s because I’m bored with the format, preoccupied with other creative work, or incurious about my surroundings – it could even be my camera itself, which I’ve wanted to replace for months, but I can’t afford a new one at the moment.

But I think that, rather than continue halfheartedly, it makes more sense to take a break, and think hard about a change – in the rules, in the form, in the raison d’√™tre of Video Haiku.

I’m totally open to ideas and opinions and suggestions – feel free to send me your thoughts. And I know that I’m not done, by any means, with web video – the potential of the medium is still fascinating to me, and this blog has been an extremely satisfying and meaningful pursuit.

So, I’ll definitely be back – I’m just taking a break, to figure out what’s next.

I’ve been thinking about that, especially about that idea of format. What’s a format for me ? well, just taking a picture with a camera and wait untill i’m sure this picture’s good, or crap. Then decide if i want the world, or the close circle of friends, to have another good picture or another crap picture. There’s not much i can change about that, can i?

For you, chap, format is way more. It is your 2 minutes, your .qt resolution, your blog place, your posting rate, your editing program. Everything of this can change.

You may need new air into the same lungs. Video Haiku was maybe a project, and now it’s done and you can leave it online and go, and let the archivers work. And you settle some place else, with another idea like interviews of people or squirrel hunting or video Sudoku.

    I’m taking this seriously.

That was maybe the first and easier form of web video. Will you do something better, with added poetry?

The most important question is rather, i suppose: can you not do it?

Nooooo! Say eet eesn’t so! Snurf…snurf…while I am sad for the lack of wmvs and seeing things through your lovely eye (both of ’em), I understand your decision to step back for a bit. You introduced me to the concept of fallow and subsequently I reaped its benefits. Here’s to anticipating your next venture.
