Chase Memory

My good friend Chase Korte died in a car accident last weekend, in Los Angeles. He was 24.

I was lucky to know him, lucky to work with him, and lucky to have all this super-8 footage of him still on my hard drive, from a short film I shot for him last summer.

So, even though he was the writer, director and producer of that film, I took the creative liberty of appropriating his footage and cutting together something of my own, to hold onto and remember him by.

Hope he doesn’t mind.

It’s a big file, and it doesn’t follow any of the video haiku rules. Fair warning.

Chase Korte = A+Gifted*Talent, A+True*Realist, A+Prophetic*Messenger, A+Passionate Spirit, A+Beautiful Soul, A+Peace*Pilgrim, and though i*knew him not in this life, i*am certain he was, A+Good Friend to all who did.

    Walk in Peace, Chase . . .

and now a message to all those who abuse, drink and drive:

Clasping its coolly deceptive exterior, swallowing the soothingly smooth liquid flower, drowning your shame, sinking the fears, prolonging your suffering, looking now through dull glassy eyed anger, unable to fight the terrifying vertical embrace of this hoax, hostage to the slick hypocritical bite, a singular self destructive impostor absent of pride, bottled and discarded upon the decaying heap of social misery, forever shrouded in a life of poisonous mist, in between center and balance, a thousand times a thousand years from ever knowing universal peace, bound only by the threads we weave.

Jeez, Kev. I’m sorry. It’s a nice piece, something anyone would be proud to be remembered by.

    Let’s talk this weekend.
